I was reading this web page

https://austinmarieguitars.com/guitar/1 ... -stauffer/

and came across this
(Martin’s first American guitars from 1834 are patterned after Stauffer’s design and his labels advertise, “Pupil of the celebrated STAUFFER”. Martin’s association with Stauffer, however, is subject to debate.)

Looking at the highlighted section, I am I reading this wrong or is there a question about Stauffers influence on C F Martin?

It's long been my understanding that Stauffer influenced Martin heavily.

I ave read that C.F. Martin 1st who?Was german went to Stauffer in Austria for a three year apprenticship to become a luthier. He then wenn back to his hometown in Germany to found his own shop, but that was not possible without beeing a Master. In these early days it lasts 20 years to become a Master in Luthiery. So he went to America to found his C.F. Martin brand. This is his connection with Stauffer as far as I know. Therefor his first had the Stauffer head.

Up at night watching old Antiques Roadshow and there was a Martin & Coupa guitar with the Stauffer head.
